THE SCIENTIFIC BACKGROUND
On April 25, 1953, the scientific journal Nature published a text in which scientists Francis Harry Compton Crick and James Dewey Watson publicly presented their discovery of the molecular structure of DNA in the form of a double helix, a carrier molecule of genetic information for living organisms.
The DNA (Desoxiribonucléico acid) consists of a double helix of nucleotide polymers. Each nucleotide is composed of a sugar (deoxyribose), a nitrogenous base (adenine, thymine, guanine or cytosine) and a phosphate group that binds with the following nucleotide.
