THE SCIENTIFIC BACKGROUND
On April 25, 1953, the scientific journal Nature published a text in which scientists Francis Harry Compton Crick and James Dewey Watson publicly presented their discovery of the molecular structure of DNA in the form of a double helix, a carrier molecule of genetic information for living organisms.

The DNA (Desoxiribonucléico acid) consists of a double helix of nucleotide polymers. Each nucleotide is composed of a sugar (deoxyribose), a nitrogenous base (adenine, thymine, guanine or cytosine) and a phosphate group that binds with the following nucleotide.
DNA contains the information necessary for the life and reproduction of an individual.
Great advances in genetics (part of the biology that studies the genes and the mechanisms that regulate the transmission of the hereditary characters) and genomics (set of disciplines related to the study of the genomes and their applications in gene therapy, Biotechnology, etc.) have made it possible to design a fruit resistant to a certain plague, know the risk of suffering certain diseases, identify people or learn more about our ancestors.
